Empty ourselves
If we are full of ourselves, we think "we are okay on our own; we can handle this ourselves. We've got what it takes; we don't need others."
And then we do not depend on God anymore and lose our sensitivity to God's word and his will for us. But Jesus showed a different way.
"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2.3-8
To be used by God to accomplish his purpose, we ought to empty ourselves like Jesus.
"We put thirty spokes to make a wheel but it is on the hole in the centre that the use of the cart hinges
We make a vessel from a lump of clay but it is the empty space within the vessel that make it useful
We make doors and windows for a room but it is the empty spaces that make the room livable
Thus while existence has advantages, it is the void that make it useful"
~ Lao Tzu
