"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God." (Romans 3.23-25 KJV)

KJV uses the word "remission" which reminds me of the medical term as defined in Wikipedia. Of special note: "In cancer-treatment, doctors usually avoid the term "cured" and instead prefer the term "no evidence of disease" (NED) to refer to a complete remission of cancer, which does not rule out the possibility of relapse."

Likewise with sin in our lives. We all sin and repent and hopefully have no evidence of disease / sin anymore, but we need to be vigilant - daily - to focus on God and avoid a relapse.
