Store treasures in heaven

Do not store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6.19-20 NLT)

Nowadays, many forms of treasures can be held electronically, so worry about moths and rust sounds outdated. But recent history have shown that even what many thought as "safe" financial instruments can collapse and many people lost their money, unfortunately.

We need some form of earthly financial means to operate a "normal" life amongst the society and we need to manage them as wise as we can, so we can use it according to God's purpose.

But the verse above reminds us to look beyond our present life on earth toward our next life after we die. Because as surely as we need earthly means to live on earth, we will surely die one day.

As far as I can tell from the Bible, it will be too late to acquire heavenly treasures after we die. So should we not work on acquiring and storing "treasures in heaven" from now on?

We never know when any of us will go.

Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog — it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. (James 4.13-14 NLT)
