Being different
Many people want to be different from others so they can stand out and be noticed as better or prettier or more handsome or more successful or more wealthy, etc, etc.
For Christians, we can be different and stand out the Jesus way.
If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them! And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return. (Luke 6.32-34 NLT)
Most Christians (including myself) do something for others because of "what is in it for us". This no different from non-Christians.
Jesus tells us to do something for others out of compassion, because God "is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate." (Luke 6.35-36 NLT)
