Tiny spark

"Anger" conjures up images of something major, but it also applies to small day-to-day events that may seem trivial at the time. I may not attribute it to "anger", but if I trace it carefully, many times the root cause is the feeling of "angry" at something or, frequently, someone - be it others or myself.

It does not always manifest into something big, but even a tiny angry thought is enough of a spark that can lead me down the wrong path. And the Bible is explicit about this attitude.

You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. (Matthew 5.21-22 NLT)

But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. ... Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! (James 3.5,6,9,10 NLT)

Lord, help me to always see from your perspectives, not from my selfish perspectives, in everything.
