Heed your sorrow
The kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. (2 Corinthians 7.10)
It is common to think that sorrow is a punishment, but here the Bible said sorrow can lead us to repentance away from sin. In other words, to bring us back toward God.
Just like the story in Luke 15.11-32, when the lost son (prodigal son) was in sorrow, he "finally came to his senses ... so he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him."
So when we are in sorrow, instead of running away from God, let us draw near to him to his embrace.
