Response to being hurt

This one is hard.

"See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people." (1 Thessalonians 5.15 NLT)

We are urged to resist our natural fleshly response when we are hurt. Instead of revenge, we are told to do good. And the key lies in the subsequent verses.

"Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5.16-18 NLT)

Look at a water spring, we can take and take and the water keeps coming out. Likewise, we ought to be like a water spring: always joyfull, praying, and thankful. And when we get hurt, the Holy Spirit helps us pray for the person who hurts us, remain joyful and thankful to God.

"Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him.)" (John 7.37-39 NLT)
