Offer sacrifices
"
Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.
Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 'I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.'
"
(Mark 12.41-44 NLT)
A sacrifice cannot be something that we do not feel. If it does not make a dent, then let us not consider it a sacrifice. Sacrifice involves pain such that God's will takes precedence over our will.
It is not only about money. It can be postponement or change of our plan, or anything. In essence, sacrificing our will in order to take up God's will in its place.
Instead of spending the two coins on herself, the poor widow offered them to God because she believed obeying God's will was more important and worth sacrificing her two coins.
God's will took precedence over her will.
What about us? Do we regularly offer sacrifices so God's will takes precedence over our will?
Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the Lord.
..
Let your face smile on us, Lord. You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.
(Psalm 4.5-8 NLT)
