Reference point

It is often depicted in movies that when people are lost in desert, they would walk in circle. The prevailing myth is that because humans tend to have dominant legs or different leg length, such that it creates slight asymmetry that leads to them walking in circle.

Scientifically, this is rebutted in an empirical study by Max Planck Institute researchers. According to the researchers, the most important thing is this. "People need to use reliable cues for walking direction in their environment, for example a tower or mountain in the distance, or the position of the sun."

In other words, a reference point.

I believe similarly as I walk my life's journey, if I do not have a reference point, I will meander randomly. It might be nice to meander once in a while, but to meander all the time for the full length of my life does not seem like a fulfilling life to me.

I am thankful that I have a reference point to guide me through my life's journey. Sure, sometimes I meandered. But I always kept my reference point in sight and use it to return to my intended path.

Or maybe God kept the reference point always visible to me. And when I meandered too long, he guided me back to his path. Yeah, this is more accurate.
