The great concern of our lives
"Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." (Matthew 6.19-21 NLT)
And further down in verse 33: "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously."
But in my flesh, I struggle with this often.
We argue in exactly the opposite way, even the most spiritually-minded of us - "But I must live; I must make so much money; I must be clothed; I must be fed."
The great concern of our lives is not the kingdom of God, but how we are to fit ourselves to live.
~ Oswald Chambers
"These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs ... and he will give you everything you need." (Matthew 6.32,33 NLT)
If "these things dominate my thoughts", then am I an "unbeliever"?
This reminds me of the father of the boy possessed with an evil spirit: Mark 9.14-29 (NLT).
"Have mercy on us and help us, if you can." “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
Likewise in my life. I know the heavenly Father already knows all my needs and he will give me everything I need. And yet I worry.
Lord,
help me overcome my unbelief.
