Children pick up bad habits of their parents without being taught. The osmosis happens automatically regardless what the parents teach their children. Parents who do not walk the talk complain their children do not listen to their teaching. The problem is what they teach with their talk does not match their actions.

Amongst friends and out in society, there are also influences that we cannot control. In many households, both parents work to make bigger income and their children spend less time with their parents as they grow and external influences are strong. In some households, both parents work out of necessity.

Raising children needs godly wisdom. First is so we recognise our hypocrisy and straighten our ways to walk the talk according to Christ' teaching. Second is so we align our desires with God's desires and not only focus on material needs. Third is so we bring our children to fellowship with God through his communities / churches.
