Chasing the wind

"
I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbours. But this, too, is meaningless — like chasing the wind.

“Fools fold their idle hands, leading them to ruin.” And yet, “Better to have one handful with quietness than two handfuls with hard work and chasing the wind.”
"

(Ecclesiastes 4.4-6 NLT)

FOMO, fear of missing out, is a form of envy. Endless scrolling of social media photographs of others seemingly perfect vacation or dinner or house or life - this is often driven by our desire to have similar or better life. Beautiful or inspiring advertisements also appeal to our envy, although the marketing experts call it "aspirational".

Aspirations can be good as long as they are in keeping with God's will for us. We need to be mindful and digest carefully what we hear, read, and watch every day.

"
Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
"

(Matthew 6.22-23 NLT)

Lord,
keep my mind so it does not go into "chasing the wind".
