"A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart."

A heart of service is different from a heart that wants to be served.

I can have one heart in one context but a different heart in another context. I thought I am a good person who has a heart of service. But the existence of the heart that wants to be served argues that I have not fully taken on the mindset of Jesus.

It is good to serve each other, so we ought to allow others to serve us when appropriate. But we ought not demand it. It is about right thought and attitude.

Oh how hard it is to keep a heart of service in all situations to all people, all the time. But clearly I need to pick up the humility of Jesus and have a heart of service to everyone, in all circumstances.

The heart of the matter is the heart.
