A process steadily maintained
"
Some of us get played out in the first ten yards, because God compels us to go where we cannot see the way, and we say — “I will wait till I get nearer the big crisis.” If we do not do the running steadily in the little ways, we shall do nothing in the crisis.
It is easy to imagine that we will get to a place where we are complete and ready, but preparation is not suddenly accomplished, it is a process steadily maintained.
"
~ Oswald Chambers
Let us imagine a scenario where we are substitute players for a sports team.
The team is in a very important match and we are trailing the opposing team by not much. The minutes are winding down and our team is at play. Possibly the last play of the match. Last chance to turn the tide.
One of the main players got injured and the coach needs a substitute. Who will the coach pick?
NOT someone who has been lazy during practices nor has never performed well during practices.
The coach will pick from the list of players who have done well during daily practices and have the proven skills for the exact play that the team needs to execute.
Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.
