Highest sacrifice
"For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son ..." (John 3.16 NLT)
In the cultural context of Jesus' day on earth, in such a patriarchal culture, sacrificing the heir son is the highest form of sacrifice. There is no bigger sacrifice than that.
The audience, who the apostle John wrote to, knew contextually what this meant. The concept was taught to them and their ancestors ever since Abraham came down from the mountain with Isaac.
And they were reminded of it when Jesus died up on the cross in Golgotha.
But in our today, where we have all kinds of conveniences that mankind has devised, and we can get credit to help us with finances, and internet with whatever information we need, what does the highest sacrifice mean?
What would it be for me to give the highest form of sacrifice?
And would I climb up the mountain to sacrifice it when God calls?
