Fleeting
"
Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered —
how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.
We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth,
not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.
"
(Psalms 39.4-7 NLT)
I do not know about you, but I sometimes get worked up over details when something is not as it ought to be. I am a believer in Colossians 3.23. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." (ESV) To me, this also includes the small details in my mundane everyday life.
I want to honour the Lord in the big things and the small things. At the same time, I need to keep in mind not to overthink everything. I need to keep things in perspective and in balance. Life is short.
But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
(Luke 10.41-42 NLT)
