Survivorship bias (part 3)
Inspiring stories of survivors and victors focus on their previous state, then how they face struggles, and then eventually how they overcame all those and came out victorious. The stories usually end on their accomplishments - the high point.
Many of us strive to be like them - thinking that once we reach the high point, it will keep getting better. But life does not always work that way.
Sometimes we get follow up stories on these survivors and victors. The follow up stories may reveal additional details that were not so flattering during their struggles. Or their life after the accomplishments are not turning out as we imagined.
Had we known that, would we still want to pursue to live like them? Or would we rather live an ordinary life?
I get it. The inspiring life is interesting. But there is nothing wrong with the ordinary life either. And whether we seek the mundane ordinary life or the inspiring life, God is always faithful. Whichever path we are on, we need to trust him unconditionally.
For me, trusting him unconditionally is the hard part. If I do not lead and accomplish an inspiring life, "am I doing something wrong?"
God has a purpose uniquely customised for me. My accomplshing HIS purpose is not conditional to me following other people's pattern. He sets me out to trailblaze my own path.
