Law, grace, and truth
"The law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1.17 NIVUK)
The law still applies to us.
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. ... I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5.17,20 NIVUK)
Oh what a high requirement to enter the kingdom of heaven. Our righteousness is lacking; we need grace.
"Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. ...
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no-one can boast." (Ephesians 2.4,5,8,9 NIVUK)
And there is only one way to the truth.
"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8.31,32 NIVUK)
