My benchmark should be what would please the Lord as I can infer from the Bible.

"Do not complain against one another, my brothers and sisters, so that God will not judge you." (James 5.9 GNB)

And do not be the type of person who James warned against: "But if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, ..." (James 3.14 GNB)
