Fairness (2)
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been born blind. His disciples asked him, “Teacher, whose sin caused him to be born blind? Was it his own or his parents' sin?” Jesus answered, “His blindness has nothing to do with his sins or his parents' sins. He is blind so that God's power might be seen at work in him.”
(John 9.1-3 GNB)
The story did not record if the blind man ever complained to Jesus about being born blind. He was without sight through his late teens or early twenties? His parents told the Jewish authorities “He is old enough; ask him!”
All "so that God's power might be seen at work in him." No other reason.
Feels unfair. If it were me, I might have complained.
But knowing what I know now, if I were given a choice, which would I choose? Getting my "fair" share in life, or being used by God so his power is seen at work?
All in all, it depends on which measure I use. The measure of the world would insist on "fairness". But the measure of heaven educates me that it is of greater joy and glory to be used by God to achieve his purpose.
Lord,
help me choose to be used by you.
