Fairness (4)

"Fairness" in literal sense goes both ways, but it is typically used in a self-benefitting way. "I only get 2 and she gets 4 - it is not fair. We each should get 3 so it fair." The word "fair" is used to get me more so I do not get less than the other person.

But the opposite way is also about fairness. I have more and the other person has less. It is fair that I share.

"The group of believers was one in mind and heart. None of them said that any of their belongings were their own, but they all shared with one another everything they had. With great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God poured rich blessings on them all.

There was no one in the group who was in need. Those who owned fields or houses would sell them, bring the money received from the sale, and hand it over to the apostles; and the money was distributed to each one according to his need."

(Acts 4.32-35 GNB)

"And God poured rich blessings on them all." Was it because they shared? Or did they share because they were richly blessed? Either way, I need to think about "fairness" in both ways. I need to share God's blessings to others and be joyful in the sharing.

Jesus said to [the rich young man], “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me.”

(Matthew 19.21 GNB)
