“You have been made clean already by the teaching I have given you. Remain united to me, and I will remain united to you. A branch cannot bear fruit by itself; it can do so only if it remains in the vine. In the same way you cannot bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

(John 15.3-4)

To produce fruit, a branch must be healthily attached to the vine. It is possible to graft a branch onto another vine elsewhere and the branch thrives.

But thriving is not my only goal. If I am attached to the wrong vine, that will not do me any good. I want to remain united to Jesus.
