Every social circle, small or large, has unwritten expectations or norms. They started long ago and remain upheld to this day, because they are expected. They probably had good reasons when they started. But now they are just there, regardless the original reasons.

Time marches on.

Sometimes it is difficult to live up to social expectations when they do not fit modern demands of life for my specific individual circumstance. Even amongst fellow believers, social expectations are prevalent.

I do not mean to disregard social expectations out of selfish intent. I want to be realistic and introspective and intentional about what I do and why I do them.

And it is important not to confuse God's expectations and social expectations. What does God expect of me? I think this is what truly matters.
