Intent and action

"Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back in its place! Do you think that I will not drink the cup of suffering which my Father has given me?”"

(John 18.11 GNB)

Peter took action and he fought for Jesus. Even at the risk of his own life. But the time had not come for him to risk his life for Jesus and so Jesus told him to put the sword back in its place.

Peter meant well. But intent is not everything. That was the second time Peter's intent did not align with Jesus.

"Jesus turned around and said to Peter, “Get away from me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my way, because these thoughts of yours don't come from God, but from human nature.”"

(Matthew 16.23 GNB)

Good intention can be an obstacle, if I act on it relying on my own way. I need to align every intent and every thought with God before I take action.

“My thoughts,” says the LORD, “are not like yours,
and my ways are different from yours.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways and thoughts above yours.”

(Isaiah 55.8-9 GNB)
