No, not him

"So Pilate asked him, “Are you a king, then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. I was born and came into the world for this one purpose, to speak about the truth. Whoever belongs to the truth listens to me.”

“And what is truth?” Pilate asked.

Then Pilate went back outside to the people and said to them, “I cannot find any reason to condemn him. But according to the custom you have, I always set free a prisoner for you during the Passover. Do you want me to set free for you the King of the Jews?”

They answered him with a shout, “No, not him! We want Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a bandit.)"

(John 18.37-40 GNB)

Pilate did not wait to hear the answer to his own question: "What is truth?"

Many people would rather choose their own "truth" - the one that benefits them, instead of choosing God's truth. They manipulate, distort, smear, or hide any truth that does not benefit their interest.

Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14.6) But they shouted, "No, not him!"

In current times, it is more subtle. People may not shout (although some do), but the choice is still similar. "No, not him! I want fortune, fame, and power."

Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.”
