What is that to you?

"When Peter saw him, he asked Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” Jesus answered him, “If I want him to live until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!”

So a report spread among the followers of Jesus that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he said, “If I want him to live until I come, what is that to you?”"

(John 21.21-23 GNB)

Prior to this, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loves Jesus. Peter answered each time. But this time, Peter did not answer the question.

I get it. The Lord asked me the same question often. And like Peter, I do not have a good answer each time.

"If I want that person to have a sky-rocketing career, what is that to you?"

"If I want that person to be much wealthier than you, what is that to you?"

"If I want that person to ..., what is that to you?"

Other people have no bearing on my worth to Jesus. There is no need to compare myself with other people. There is no need to envy them.

I am precious in his eyes, as I am. I have all that I need, as to the plan he has for me.

Amen
