It is human nature to seek the best and the most for my self. With regard to material possessions, relationships with others, and relationship with God.

My self gets in the way of my relationship with God. When I focus on my self, I lose focus on God. This usually gets me in trouble.

Getting my way with others seems to make me "happy", but it is only temporary and may leave negative feelings on others. This then complicates other things in the future which lessen my worldly "happiness". It gets in the way of my relationships with others.

Getting what I want with regard to material possessions makes me arrogant. This leads to downfall.

I need my self to get out of the way.

Lord,
please help me not take my self too seriously
and instead place importance on what you want
and the needs of others
