As it should be used

"We know that the Law is good if it is used as it should be used." (1 Timothy 1.8 GNB)

The Lord gave the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20.1-17). Only ten. But look at the body of human law that exists in present time. There are a lot.

Humans want to do whatever please themselves, not the Lord. They use their law so they can have excuse to do something that is not explicitly mentioned in their law, or something that can be interpreted according to their desire.

"The law does not say I cannot do this." Or "the law can be interpreted that I may do that." They use the law to justify doing things that displease the Lord.

"The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments. ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ And ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’" (Matthew 22.36-40 GNB, paraphrased)

Do I really need detailed rules and laws when I should be evaluating what is in my heart? Is my heart's desire aligned or not with the Lord's heart? In doing this or that, do I desire to love the Lord and to love my neighbour?
