In communion, we receive “bread and wine”. And many believers also expect to receive blessings through the act of taking communion.

But let us not forget that communion is about giving and sharing. It is a reminder of what Jesus did for us, so that we also do likewise to others. To love like Jesus loves.

In the early church, the communion was also where they shared meal with each other. And, I speculate, at this meal was where they also shared their wealth to help each other. (Acts 4.32-37)

In other words, taking part in communion is also a reminder that I ought to “Love my neighbour as I love myself.” (Matthew 22.39)
