Compare the responses of Jonah and Ananias (Jonah 1.1-3, Acts 9.10-17). One is of indignant self-righteousness and the other is of humble submission.

Who am I to ever think that I know better than God? But is it not the case when I hear God’s command and not obey?

Testing that what I hear is God’s command is different from challenging the command. I ought to be sure the source is God. I do not want to follow another voice.

But when it is God’s voice, I ought to obey.

Lord,
you have your reason and
your timing is always impeccable.
I want to be your instrument,
so please help me listen to your voice
