Persecution
"About this time King Herod began to persecute some members of the church. He had James, the brother of John, put to death by the sword. When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he went on to arrest Peter. (This happened during the time of the Festival of Unleavened Bread.) After his arrest Peter was put in jail, where he was handed over to be guarded by four groups of four soldiers each. Herod planned to put him on trial in public after Passover. So Peter was kept in jail, but the people of the church were praying earnestly to God for him."
(Acts 12.1-5 GNB)
People in power often oppress Christians all over the world. Not just due to religious differences, but also due to political and economic reasons. Even when those people do not have anything against specific individual Christian, they may do it because of their motivation against the Christian as a people.
I suppose this happens not just toward Christians specifically, but also to other groups. It's the evil in the world and the corrupt nature of human heart.
God sometimes deliver some Christians, like he did for Peter. Sometimes not, for whatever good reasons he has. I hope you and I do not have to be in such a predicament. And I pray for those in such a predicament, that God would strengthen them and protect them.
