David and Goliath
1 Samuel 17 is well known story. It has many elements that make for a good story. And it is inspirational.
It is rarely thought of as a miracle story, which I think it is.
As I think about the David and Goliath story, I am reminded of the story of Elisha and his servant in 2 Kings 6 regarding the horses and chariots of fire protection from the Lord. Elisha could see them, but the servant could not until the Lord opened the servant's eyes.
What did David - the boy - see and sense that others did not?
It is inspirational to think that I can face "my Goliath" and come out victorious like David. But have I gone through the "training" that David went through prior to his battle? Have I a heart like David that see beyond what is visible to the naked eyes? Have I the hand of God leading me forward into the battle (or is the battle due to my selfish desire)?
God does not promise deliverance out of my every foolishness. Sometimes he will let me face "my Goliath" and withhold his miracle. ... Ouch.
I need to remind myself not to seek out Goliath out of selfish desire. Goliath may come seek me. And to defeat "my Goliath", I need to be like David first.
