David and Goliath (8)

If you were David's older brothers, what would you think and feel?

They were all passed by the prophet Samuel when he came to anoint one of them as the next king to replace Saul. That ended up being little David.

And little David came to visit the army, where three of David's older brothers were, to bring them food. "Eliab, David's eldest brother, heard David talking to the men. He was angry with David and said, “What are you doing here? Who is taking care of those sheep of yours out there in the wilderness? You cheeky brat, you! You just came to watch the fighting!”" (1 Samuel 17.28 GNB)

The rest of the story is well known. David killed Goliath. Did the brothers rejoice with David? Did they trash talk his achievement down? How did they react when their friends talk about it?

What if it were my sibling? Was his / her success just a coincidence? Should it have been me who went and killed Goliath? It was unfair God did not anoint me and send me to Goliath!

Yeah right. I was the one who hid behind the rest of the army to avoid getting sent to Goliath in the first place. Nor to meditate on God's words day and night to have a heart after God's own heart.

Lord,
please help me not to seek glory
but to seek your will and the courage to do your will
