Because they saw (2)
"Many of the believers came, publicly admitting and revealing what they had done. Many of those who had practised magic brought their books together and burnt them in public. They added up the price of the books, and the total came to 50,000 silver coins. In this powerful way the word of the Lord kept spreading and growing stronger."
(Acts 19.18-20 GNB)
I first heard of the term "undercover Christian" last week, referring to Christian who is not distinguishable from non-Christian, i.e. behaving in ways that do not live up to the Christian values - living just like non-believers.
That is such in contrast to the believers above who professed their faith and burnt their magic books. Their action was powerfully used by the Lord to keep spreading the word.
Lord,
please give me courage
to live up your values in my daily life
to bring honour and glory to your name
