The Israelites knew where the Messiah was to be born, but they did not expect the kind of family he was born into - a humble carpenter. They knew the Messiah would deliver them, but they were wrong about what he was delivering them out of.

In relation to what they understood at the time, for the Israelites who committed their lives to Jesus, the Christmas story is like a rewrite for them. God rewrote whatever was commonplace belief at the time into something new. Not in line with human expectation, but solely according to God’s plan. Something different and unexpected.

Can God do another rewrite? He can. Will he? Only God knows.
