Some people will go through the trouble of explaining long and complicated excuses for something she / he did not do as expected. It would have been shorter and easier to just acknowledge and agree to do it better.

Excuses, instead of candour.

Excuse does not solve problem. It evades accountability. Self-justification focused on selfish motives takes care of me, but it does not take care of others nor God's interest.

I ought not focus on myself.

"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too."
