Dementia and faith (3)
"Respect your father and your mother ..." (Exodus 20.12 GNB)
Generational differences can make relationship between parents and children tricky. Even more so when one of the parents has dementia. (Hopefully only one and not both.)
Dementia strips away many things, but one thing that always remains is the command for the children to respect / honour the father and mother. The command does not come with an escape clause - there is no "except ...". And the command addresses not only the outward appearance, but also the inner attitudes and thoughts.
Even without dementia, it can be a struggle at times.
God calls the children to have faith in him. That no matter what, respecting / honouring the parents from the inside out is what God calls me to do. And that he will help us.
