Tenth

“As Abraham was coming back from the battle in which he defeated the four kings, Melchizedek met him and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of all he had taken.”

(Hebrews 7.1-2 GNB)

Giving a tenth to God is a declaration of faith. First, I could not have done it on my own. Second, God can replace the tenth I give by means of non-material blessings as he sees fit. Third, I serve God, not mammon.

“Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22.17-21 ESV)
