Jehovah Jireh (2)

“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” ..

.. Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.”

(Genesis 22 ESV)

Abraham had consistently obeyed God in the past and so he was intimate with God; he knew well that it was God who spoke and what God asked him to do.

Isaac was Abraham's only son and he loved Isaac dearly. But when he had to choose between Isaac and obedience to God, Abraham chose obedience. Nobody and nothing competes for Abraham's devotion to God.

And God still asks that nobody and nothing competes with him in my heart. So when God asks, will I choose God?

What or who is my "Isaac"?

"Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions."

(Matthew 19.21-22 ESV)

If I obey, "God will provide."
