"Pay attention to what your father and mother tell you, my child. Their teaching will improve your character as a handsome turban or a necklace improves your appearance."

In the period this was written, knowledge was mostly transferred verbally, probably through the family. Nowadays knowledge is easily available online and in books / electronic books. Many young people think they are smarter than their parents in everything.

But knowing something and having the good judgment what to do with the knowledge are not the same thing. To paraphrase a popular saying:

Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from making mistakes. And mistakes are made by bad judgments.

Learning about other people's experiences is good. So do not ignore "what your father and mother tell you". Digest it and process it in light of God's words.
