Law and faith

"For no one is put right in God's sight by doing what the Law requires; what the Law does is to make people know that they have sinned. But now God's way of putting people right with himself has been revealed. It has nothing to do with law, even though the Law of Moses and the prophets gave their witness to it. God puts people right through their faith in Jesus Christ."

(Romans 3.20-22 GNB)

And at the same time, faith in Jesus Christ necessitates obedience to the essence of the Law. The focus is on Jesus, not on the Law. But if my actions are not consistent with the Law, then does my faith rest on Jesus or on something else?

Trust Jesus.

“Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teachings come true. ... I tell you, then, that you will be able to enter the Kingdom of heaven only if you are more faithful than the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees in doing what God requires.”

(Matthew 5.17,20 GNB)

Jesus answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

(Matthew 22.37-40 GNB)
