The other religion
"You cannot serve God and money." (Matthew 6.24 ESV)
Be it physical or electronic, money is tangible and pragmatic. Without money, people would need to barter goods directly. Many laypeople may not realise it, because money is so ubiquitous, but if we trace it, the usefulness of money relies on trust - somewhere.
And trust is the basis of religion, so, in a way, money is a religion.
Hang on! Money is an object, a tool, and something that I control. I do not worship money.
"Worship" is not just something I declare with my mouth. What does my daily life show about who / what I worship? What does my daily activities revolve around? Money or God? The topic of money dominates life.
Yes, modern reality requires possession of money and all that is involved. But I should not worship and serve money.
