"Then certain of the elders .. came to me [seeking an oracle from God] and sat down before me. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, these men have set up [and honoured] their idols in their hearts and have put right before their faces the [vile] stumbling block of their wickedness and guilt; should I [permit Myself to] be consulted by them at all?”"

Idols are stumbling block for true obedience and surrender. "God does not allow that, but the idols are okay with that. So for that specific case, I will follow the idols. I will go back to God later."

It is a slippery slope.

God sees my heart. He knows where my idols are.

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord]."
