Daily bread

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

~ Matthew 6.11 KJV

Different cultures have different basic staple, if they do not primarily eat bread. It can be potato, rice, etc - the lowest common denominator. Basic need.

Jesus reminded us to pray for what we need.

Not fancy food and luxuries of the world. Not a new car nor grand mansion. Just what I need. And just for “this day”, not a barn-full of grain. (See Luke 12.16-21)

Jesus taught the Lord’s prayer after he taught about giving to the needy and before he taught about mammon. The lesson to me is clear: I ought to love only God and above all else. I ought to focus on what I need. And I need to give to others humbly.
