Follower but not believer

"The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. ... One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus .. found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. ... The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” ...

This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him."

Jesus' initial disciples followed him, but they did not believe in him until they saw the miracle at the wedding in Cana. Did they follow because that was the trendy thing to do? Or was it because someone else did and they thought they would try it too? Was it just for fun - to try things out?

Also these days many claims to be followers of Jesus but they do not believe Jesus. They hold on to their own ideology instead of adopting Jesus' teachings wholeheartedly. They follow Jesus while they cling to the "world".
