My Father's house (2)
"The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade.”"
~ John 2.13-16 ESV
First, believers ought to go to the Lord's house with the intent to worship and to fellowship and to serve. Not to make money.
Second, believers ought to prepare appropriately for their worship and offering. They were supposed to bring their offering, not to buy it on the temple. Preparing and bringing the offering itself was part of the process to prepare their hearts.
True that Christians do not kill any oxen, sheep, or pigeons and bring it to the church. It is not about that. It is about preparing the heart for worship.
Do I set aside time go to church regularly? Do I give money for the Lord's kingdom? Do I spend time to fellowship with other believers? Do I serve in ministry or help others?
Who is number one in my heart: God or me?
