"When the people saw him do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!” When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself."

The people wanted to make Jesus their king because they wanted Jesus to do something for them. "If Jesus do this and that for me, he can be my king." That is not the correct attitude. People do not appoint their king. They are the king's subjects and obedience is expected regardless of what the people think.
Jesus knew these people did not have the correct mindset of who Jesus is.
In the past, sometimes I felt as if Jesus "slipped away into the hills by himself" leaving me by myself. Maybe those are the times I had incorrect mindset of Jesus' kingship in my life.
