His prayer

"My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory."

~ John 17.9-10 NLT

In this specific instance, instead of praying for everyone in the world, Jesus prayed specifically for his disciples - those who believed him and followed him. By extension, this includes later disciples and you and me.

The purpose of his prayer is for you and me to bring him glory.
