In the path

"Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s slave. But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”"

The way of the cross involved suffering. Jesus knew this well and chose it anyway. He did not avoid it, because that is the path he needed to go to fulfill his mission.

Sometimes suffering is also in the path of my mission, but I am going anyway, because I choose to follow him.

"If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me."
