Names

Yesterday I met a lady called Samuela, which I assumed the female version of Samuel. Years ago, I had a colleague called Daniela, which I assumed the female version of Daniel. I think Gabriela is the female version of Gabriel. And Paulina is the female version of Paul / Paulus?

I am sure there are other examples. But some Christian names do not have the female version and vice versa. I can sort of get it, when the names are names of existing people in the Bible.

But what about English words? "Hope", "Faith", and "Grace" are always female names. I understand English words do not have gender, but that is not my point. Why are these names used only for female?
